Hello, We’re The Tabasco Birds

The Tabasco Birds are an eight-piece band based out of Denton, Texas. Our goal is to fuse classic country/roots rock (The Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Flying Burrito Brothers) with 90s lo-fi rock (Guided by Voices, Ween, Silver Jews), alongside other jazz, psychedelia and ambient elements to write catchy songs and provide unique live experiences through our embrace of DIY elements.

Formed in 2024, we have spent the last two years honing our songwriting and musicianship capabilities, building our reputation among live audiences across Dallas-Fort Worth.

We recently released our debut album, Cosmic American Music, and are in the process of recording our follow-up studio album.

We originally planned to use the name Tabasco Birds as our baseball team, but after realizing we were not as physically inclined as we anticipated, the group decided to pursue music. We share a mutual love of food, dancing, and kindness.

By the time Owen, Jake, Logan, Cathal, Joel, and Cole started The Tabasco Birds, all the songs for Cosmic American Music were fully written. The arrangements came quickly, with everyone realizing we have a strong musical kinship. A majority of the songs were written by Owen, Jake, and Logan, with the exception of “In Heaven,” which was written by Owen with lyrical additions by Cathal and Cole. Originally the band envisioned Cosmic American Music to be a double album and recorded it at Cole’s house, but the recordings were deemed to be “too horrid,” so we started looking for a studio.

We began recording at Matt Pence’s EchoLabs, where we spent seven sessions completing the album. Nathan Walters was the engineer and producer of the project, carefully crafting a sound everyone was happy with. We used a wide set of instruments, including: accordion, bike, pedal steel, and sound recordings by Nathan and Owen. The album art was designed by Owen and Steve Swift, with photography by Rania Geraghty and Chris Smith.
